when done with making a cake I take left over fondant and make body part shapes, Eyes, or wigs... and store and when its time to make a figure I can do it in a pinch and not waste scraps of fondant... I also make my own cutters with a cutter maker and it saves me tons of money and time because I can make a cutter in the shape of what I ever I want. I also make my own colored sheen for airbrushing which cost so much by buying a big bottle of clear sheen color and mix with gel colors and clear alcohol and I have it in all shades and it is way more cost effective.

Cake pops seem to be all the craze now a days. So after leveling a cake I keep the extra scraps in my freezer until I make cake pops! I mix in frosting of choice, somtimes melted chocolate and knead my little balls of yumminess! much better than making a whole cake for pops. And if you keep enough favors of cake you can even mix and match. saves money and time!

i store my icing in several layers of saran wrap instead of plastic containers. it helps save on costs of tupperware, and save on time defrosting the buttercream (and finding matching lids!)

I make extra gum paste and royal icing flowers when I make them. I store them in plastic containers and since its just sugar, they last.Then when I need to jazz up a cake but I don't have time, I can reach for some flowers. I also bake my cakes using a sheet tray and then using cake rings/cutters to cut and make layers. I like to keep one tray of cake in the freezer for last minute projects. The extra cake scraps I end up with after cutting out what I need get placed in the oven baked/dried up at a low temperature and then crumbled up. It can be used as a garnish on desserts or the sides of a buttercream cake.

To save time and money save all your extra dyed fondant and use that later to create black fondant by mixing them all together. You can add extra black coloring to get it right. Also buying foam board and cutting your own cake boards can save money.

After holidays, I stock up on sales of candy, decoration, theme cupcake wrappers etc. for use later. I might pick use chocolate Easter eggs, gild them and use them as golden eggs in another contest!

For specialized fondant designs that I use often I make my own cookie cutters out of cut up tinfoil pans so that I don't have to individually carve every single one every time. It saves lots of time!

This class also looks incredible and I really hope I get the opportunity to attend!

I color my homemade fondant as I mix it in the mixer(before kneading in extra sugar, while it's still very wet) if I am doing a cake all of the same color. It saves my hands from cramping trying to knead all that color in. I just made some this very minute this way. I really used to hate having to knead color in fondant when it's such a large piece(for three tier cake)and you are trying to be sure it's all the EXACT same color(I used to do it in pieces, my new way - MUCH EASIER!)

I wash and reuse the disposable pastry bags to save money. To save time, I clean piping tips and couplers by microwaving them for 1.5 minutes in a bowl full of water. Make sure the water covers the tips completely and add a couple drops of dishwashing soap.
