2009 Day of Sharing

Isabel kicked off the Day of Sharing with a demo of her adorable rice krispy treat sculptures. Isa is a master at using this medium to create cartoon figures. When she is not baking beautiful looking and tasting cakes and creating rice krispy treat figures, she is a clown at kids parties.

NYC Cake Decorators Meetup was truly honored to have Chef Toba Garrett teach her Brush Embroidery Class at our second Day of Sharing.

What a beautiful "embroidered" flower made by one of our members during Chef Toba's class!

Rice Crispy Treat Recipe

Rice Crispy Treat Sculpture designed by Isabel Sanchez , Lead Instructor, NYC Cake Decorators

Rice Crispy Treat sculpture is a wonderful technique to add to any sugar artist's repertoire. Isabel, Lead Instructor, has hand molded cartoon characters, wine bottles, and cars from rice crispy treats. Here is her fool proof recipe.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) of butter or margarine
10 oz. bag of marshmallows
6 cups of rice crispy cereal

Using a conventional oven, melt the butter or margarine in a double boiler. Stir in marshmallows until soft. Add the rice crispy cereal and stir until all the cereal is covered with the marshmallow mixture.

Prepare two pieces of plastic wrap over your work surface. Drop the mixture onto the plastic wrap and cover tightly. Use additional plastic wrap if necessary.

To learn how to sculpt your own figures from rice crispy treats, contact Isabel or the NYC Cake Decorators Meetup for details. Happy Crafting!

Betty Boop Rice Krispie Treats Demo

Betty Boop is an animated cartoon character that appeared in the Talkartoon and Betty Boop series of films produced by Max Fleischer and released by Paramount Pictures. Her debut was August 9, 1930 with the cartoon Dizzy Dishes. With her sassy, sex appeal and obvious Brooklyn, New York accent, Betty Boop was a hit with theater goers in the mid-1930's and still is popular today.

NYC Cake Decorators' Lead Instructor Isabel Sanchez-Yanez, demonstrated how to create a Betty Boop doll/cake topper from rice krispie treats on Friday, December 5th at our Midtown rented space. Members were amazed at how maleable the treats are when properly prepared (Isabel graciously provided her favorite recipe). Isn't Betty Boop adorable?
