Cake designers are often asked to color match the cake to the a wedding gown, theme, card, napkin, or venue. Kuler is a neat website for graphic designers that may be useful to cake decorators who need help in cake design, color matching an icing, decoration, cake board etc.

Cup Cake Design Class in September!


Members are looking forward to a fantastic cupcake design class scheduled for the end of September. Basic cake decorating techniques will be reviewed and cupcake displays will show how these techniques can be used to enhance cupcakes for all occasions. Only 3 weeks to go!

Isabel Sanchez-Yanez Selected Lead Instructor




Isabel is a super talented member who has been passionate about cake since she first dabbled in cake decorating over eight years ago. Her diverse talents range to sugarcraft, molding and sculpting with rice crispy treats, soap making, polymer clay, cold porcelain, and gelatin. Isabel is a veteran Wilton Method Instructor who comes with a bunch of testimonials from pleased and excited students. In addition to American cake decorating techniques, Isabel is also well versed in Latin American cake decorating techniques. She is talented, patient, and the consummate professional. We are very fortunate that Isabel will be the lead instructor for in-house cake decorating events. Bienvenidos, Isabel!

Grand Dame Cile Bellefleur-Burbidge's Wedding Cake on Exhibit at Museum!


Cile Bellefluer-Burbidge's " Wedding Bliss" a towering cake of architectural majesty---is being featured in the Peabody Essex Museum Exhibit "Wedded Bliss" through September 14, 2008. Cile and her husband, John Burbidge, Priscilla of Boston, a prestigious wedding gown salon, have both played a significant role in the wedding industry.

Cile has written cake decorating books and has had her Victorian inspired iced cakes published in magazines since the 1950's.

September 2008 Cake of The Month


New York City Cake Decorators is fortunate to have such a talented bunch of members who are passionate about cake decorating and sugarcraft. When Ruth, one of our newest members, showcased her breathtaking sweet creations, I just had to share!

Ruth started decorating cookies and cakes seriously only a year ago! She has taken a couple of cake decorating courses, but Ruth is primarily self-taught.

Ruth created this exquisitely decorated flower pot cake for a fundraiser this year. Her dream is to become a cake decorator full-time.

CHEFS RUTH DRENNAN AND LAURI DITUNNO FEATURED ON "AMAZING CAKES"!


Our good friends Chef Ruth Drennan and Chef Lauri Ditunno, former partners of The Cake Atelier will be featured on "Amazing Cakes" which will aired on the "WE" channel September 7, 2008 and the series will continue on September 21, 2008!

Both chefs are amazing cake designers and we at NYC Cake Decorators were fortunate to get a chance to network with them last January 2008. Chef Lauri's "Orchid Ambience" cake was chosen one of the "50 Most Beautiful Cakes" by Bride's Magazine. Check out her stunning wedding cakes at Cake Alchemy. We are also very pleased to announce that Chef Ruth has launched her own custom wedding cake business aptly called Ruth Drennan Cakes.

Join NYC Cake Decorators & Pink Cake Box on September 28th


Join the NJ & NYC Cake Decorators at Pink Cake Box on Sunday, September 28th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Chef Anne Heap and her assistant will show us how to create our own scrumptious hamburger cake!

The event will be held on Sunday, September 28th from 10 am to 4pm at the Warren Fire Company #3, 14 Community Place, Warren, NJ 07059.

Kobie's Yummy Carrot Cake!



Kobie loves to make carrot cakes and has made his signature carrot cake from a 100+ old family recipe passed down for more than three generations. Kobie likes to add his own twist to the cake recipe and serves this often requested dessert at family gatherings.

Kobie is a beginner cake decorator with an eye for design. His cakes taste just as good as they look! Don't you just want to eat a slice? Enjoy!

August 2008 Cake of The Month


This stunning tiered cake was made by member Linda Pacciano. Linda has studied with Toba Garrett at the Institute of Culinary education and is a graduate of the Culinary & Pastry Techniques Programs at French Culinary Institute. Linda teaches cake decorating, culinary and pastry techniques at Viking Culinary Center in Fairfield, New Jersey. She recently started her own custom cake business.
